Discovered through Carl Jung’s word association experiments at the Burghölzli Psychiatric Hospital (1904–1909), the Feeling-Toned Complex (Gefühlsbetonte Komplexe) is a constellation of emotionally charged ideas, memories, and associations operating autonomously within the personal unconscious. When triggered by outer stimuli, a complex acts like a splinter personality, temporarily hijacking conscious ego control and dictating behavior, mood, and bodily reactions.
