The Great Sphinx
In 1991 two researchers presented evidence at a major geological conference that water erosion patterns on the statue's enclosure suggested a construction date thousands of years earlier than conventionally accepted. The vast majority of both Egyptologists and geologists have rejected this redating, though it remains widely repeated in popular alternative-history writing.
