In Islamic tradition and Middle Eastern folklore (such as One Thousand and One Nights), the Ifrit (plural Afarit) is an exceptionally powerful, subterranean class of Jinn associated with ruins, volcanic depths, and great physical tasks. Named in Quran 27:39 during King Solomon’s court where an Ifrit offers to fetch the throne of Bilqis before Solomon can rise from his seat, the Ifrit symbolizes rebellious, titanic fiery force that can be subordinated only through divine authority and wisdom.
