One organisation's founding correspondence with these supposed masters was investigated and called fabricated by a formal society for psychical research in the 1880s, though that verdict was itself later reconsidered a century afterward. A separate order's own founding correspondence with a similar hidden authority was shown to be an outright forgery by one of its own founders.
