Qigong
The word appears in a handful of earlier texts, but Liu Guizhen adopted it around 1949 as the name for older Daoist and Buddhist breathing methods, recast in secular form for state medical clinics. The mass enthusiasm of the 1980s and 1990s collapsed after the 1999 crackdown on related spiritual movements.
