The Dark Line Returns
What looks slight gathers strength once given ground: recognise the thing while it is still small.
Coming to Meet sets Qian, The Creative, Heaven, above Xun, The Gentle, Wind, an image of wind blowing beneath heaven and reaching everything under it; the Image accordingly has the prince disseminate his commands and proclaim them to the four quarters. One broken line has entered at the bottom of five whole ones, and the Judgment reads it as a powerful maiden whom one should not marry, meaning an influence that ought not to be given a footing. In the Han sequence of sovereign hexagrams, which pairs twelve figures with the twelve months, this one stands at the fifth month, where the dark principle first returns after midsummer.
Light
Signifies encounter and opportunity, the reach of an influence that spreads like wind under heaven, and the alertness that recognises a thing while it is still small.
Shadow
Can represent temptation and insinuation, an inferior element admitted through familiarity; something slight at its entry that gathers strength once it has been given ground.
