The Open Declaration
Name openly what has been tolerated too long, and settle it by declaring it, not by force.
Breakthrough places Dui, The Joyous, Lake, over Qian, The Creative, Heaven: water risen to the height of heaven, which must break and fall as a cloudburst. Five whole lines have advanced from below and one broken line remains at the top, read as a last inferior element to be removed. The Judgment requires that the matter be made known truthfully at the court of the king, warns of danger, tells one to notify one's own city, and states that it does not further to resort to arms. The Image has the superior man dispense riches downward rather than rest on his virtue, since what is piled up and not shared is followed by a violent collapse.
Light
Signifies resolution, moral courage and the open naming of what has been tolerated too long; the clearing of a matter, and the dispensing of riches downward that forestalls collapse.
Shadow
Can represent rashness, denunciation, and force put in the place of argument, so that a necessary break becomes a purge; the single weakness left standing may yet return.
