The Gift Downward
Wind over thunder: two forces that strengthen each other, and the giving from above that enriches those below.
Increase sets Xun, The Gentle, Wind, above Zhen, The Arousing, Thunder, and wind and thunder are held to reinforce one another, each making the other greater. Where Decrease takes from the lower to add to the upper, Increase reverses the movement: the upper is diminished so that those below may gain, which the tradition reads as the generosity of a ruler towards his people and the true source of his standing. The Judgment says that it furthers one to undertake something and to cross the great water. The Image has the superior man imitate whatever good he sees and rid himself of his faults as soon as he finds them.
Light
Signifies abundance, generous rule and fertile undertakings, a season in which effort meets no resistance; also self-correction, the fault put right as soon as it is recognised.
Shadow
Can indicate gain that rests on another's loss, increase pursued past its season, or the complacency of receiving; a time of plenty mistaken for a permanent condition.
