Thunder Out of Earth
Stored energy breaks free and carries people of their own accord — until the mood outlasts its moment.
Enthusiasm sets the arousing thunder of Zhen above the receptive earth of Kun, and the Image reads it directly as thunder coming resoundingly out of the earth, the release of a tension that has been building. The single firm line stands in the fourth place and the five yielding lines answer to it, so movement here meets nothing that opposes it and a whole body follows of its own accord. The Judgement accordingly advises installing helpers and setting armies marching. The Image turns to music, the ancient kings making music to honour merit and offering it in splendour to the supreme deity, with the ancestors invited to be present.
Light
Signifies released energy, morale, music and ceremony, willing devotion, and the delegation that becomes possible when a movement already carries people along with it.
Shadow
Can represent intoxication with one's own mood, self-indulgence, and the delusion of an enthusiasm sustained past its moment; the lines warn against both display and complacency.
