Fellowship in the open, on aims held in common, as against the clique bound by kinship or advantage.
Fellowship sets the creative heaven of Qian above the clinging fire of Li. Fire flames upward and heaven stands above, so the two move in the same direction and like is drawn to like. The single yielding line, in the second place, is the one that all five firm lines relate to. The Judgement specifies where such association belongs, naming fellowship with men in the open country, founded on aims held in common rather than on private interest; on that footing it furthers one to cross the great water. The Image is exact about the same point, the superior man ordering the clans and making distinctions between things.
Light
Signifies community founded on shared principle, open association, loyalty, and the collective strength to undertake what none of its members could attempt alone.
Shadow
Can represent the faction and the clique, alliance formed for advantage or by kinship alone, and the mistrust between partners that the lines depict as weapons hidden in the thicket.
