The Tibetan Singing Bowl

Specialist ethnomusicologists who have studied Tibetan liturgical instruments directly have found no textual, artistic or ethnographic evidence that these bowls were ever used ritually in Tibet at all. The practice of using them for sound meditation is documented only from a Western import market beginning around 1970.
