Psalm 23:4
— NLTEven when I walk through the darkest valley, I will not be afraid, for you are close beside me. Your rod and your staff protect and comfort me.

The passageThe psalm's grammar turns at exactly this verse. Until now God has been spoken about — he leads me, he restores me. In the valley he is spoken to: thou art with me. The tradition reads the darkest line as the one where the distance closes.

The Wise Shall Shine
Daniel 12:3
— NLTThose who are wise will shine as bright as the sky, and those who lead many to righteousness will shine like the stars forever.
Wisdom measured not by intellect but by a righteous life that turns others toward it — held eternal.
The passageOne of the earliest clear statements of resurrection in the Hebrew Bible, and the reward is specific: those who turn many to righteousness shine like the stars. In the apocalyptic idiom the stars are the heavenly host, so the promise is not brightness but a change of company.
